IHMM Today

Chair's Corner

Welcome to our summer 2013 edition of the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management’s (IHMM) E-newsletter. In this issue we will deliver the latest IHMM credentialing program news.

We need your help! Our newest credential, Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP) is undergoing field testing and needs 100 exam takers. The test takers will be helping to develop the relevant examination statistics in order to deliver the CDGP to professionals dealing with the transport of hazardous articles or dangerous goods. Check out our website under “applicants….CDGP eligibility” and sign up to be a field test taker.

Allison King, Chair, IHMM
Board of Directors

Your Board of Directors (BOD) met on 14 June and heard reports on Executive Office (EO) activities and developed strategies with regard to branding and public sector outreach. We have an active Branding Task Force (BTF) discussing strategic marketing and branding of IHMM. We have published our Public Sector Outreach Report that has articles on legislation, federal regulatory notices, and federal contracts solicitations selected to be of interest to IHMM certificants.

The BOD also heard a report on The Troop Talent Act (S.700/H.R. 1796) - federal legislation that aims to ease the transition of service members from active duty to the civilian workforce. This bill would improve the alignment of specialty skills acquired in the military with civilian credentials or licenses required for employment following military service. The Troop Talent Act (TTA) will match veterans' skills with credential opportunities. The IHMM board voted to endorse the intent behind The Troop Talent Act and IHMM plans to work supporting the TTA in areas consistent with IHMM's vision and mission.

We hope that our credentials continue to open up new possibilities for our certificants, and we continue to work to gain greater recognition by employers and regulating agencies around the globe. Drop us a line and let us know of any events, meetings, or conferences where you think it would be beneficial to have representatives of IHMM attend. We would like to hear from you, too, to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about our credentials. Please don’t hesitate to contact myself, other IHMM Board members, or the IHMM Executive Office staff directly.

Have a great summer and stay cool!
