HMMT Exam Topics & Availability
The HMMT examination is equivalent to the portion of the CHMM examination that deals with Science and Basic Technology.
The HMMT exam can be taken during specially designated windows of availability at any of IHMM's approved computer-based testing locations (view list).
Professors who are interested in incorporating the HMMT program into their curricula should contact IHMM for more information.
HMMT Examination
Candidates for the HMMT designation take an examination consisting of 60 multiple-choice items drawn from the following areas:
SCIENCE & BASIC TECHNOLOGY
Science
- Chemistry
- Physics (including Radiation)
- Geology/Hydrology
- Biology/Ecology
- Physiology/Health and Safety
- Toxicology
- Math and Statistics
Basic Technology
- Statistical Methods
- Basic Laboratory Analysis, Equipment and Instruments

Upon attainment of 3 or more years of relevant and acceptable experience, HMMTs in good standing become eligible for the CHMM examination. They are exempted from taking the basic Science and Technology portion of the exam. They will be tested on the normal Regulations and Management sections of the CHMM exam, plus the following science-related topics:
